Chiropractic Treatment
Chiropractic is a healthcare profession focused on the function and movement of the spine and its relationship with the nervous system. Your brain and nervous system are constantly receiving information from your body and using it to coordinate how you move. When pain or injury occurs, the body can develop compensatory movement patterns to protect an area and reduce discomfort. Over time, these patterns can become familiar, even after the original injury has improved.
Chiropractic care can help improve how the body moves by restoring movement to areas that may be stiff or restricted and helping the nervous system develop more efficient movement patterns. In simple terms, it can be like learning a new golf swing. If you have developed a poor swing to compensate for an injury or limitation, simply repeating the same movement won't necessarily make it better. You need to retrain the movement so your brain and body can learn a more efficient pattern.
Through specific chiropractic adjustments and other techniques, we aim to provide the nervous system with better movement and sensory information, helping the brain recognise and adopt improved movement patterns. The goal is to reduce unnecessary stress and compensation through the body, which may help decrease stiffness and pain while improving functional movement.
Treatment techniques can range from very gentle, low-force adjustments using specialised instruments through to hands-on manual adjustments. Depending on your individual needs, treatment may also include muscle release techniques, traction, mobility work and specific postural and balance exercises to support better movement and function.
