Practitioner assessing a patient's neck and shoulder movement

Neck pain care in Southport

Neck pain, stiffness and headaches

Neck discomfort and headaches can have many causes. We assess your movement and health history carefully before discussing whether care at our clinic is appropriate.

Understanding your symptoms

Long periods at a desk, changes in activity, stress, injury and restricted movement can contribute to neck pain or muscular tension. Some headaches may also be associated with the joints and muscles of the neck, while others require medical assessment.

Our clinicians consider the pattern of your symptoms rather than treating every headache or neck complaint in the same way. We explain our findings and tailor any recommended care to your needs and comfort.

What to expect

Your first visit starts with a conversation about your symptoms, health history and goals. We then assess the areas that may be contributing to the problem and explain what we find.

  • A detailed discussion of the timing and pattern of your symptoms
  • Assessment of neck, shoulder and upper-back movement
  • Neurological or orthopaedic checks when clinically indicated
  • An explanation of whether treatment, referral or further investigation is appropriate

Care may include

Recommendations are based on your assessment and preferences. If care at our clinic is not appropriate, we will explain the next step and refer you when needed.

When to seek urgent care

Seek urgent medical care for a sudden severe or unfamiliar headache, or symptoms following significant trauma. Urgent assessment is also important when pain occurs with weakness, facial drooping, speech or vision changes, fainting, confusion, fever or a stiff neck.
